Playtest Quick Start Guide

#1

This is the place to start, if you want to get playing Polypoly! While we continue our plans to create a first production run of Polypoly, we’re making the source files available via Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). You’re free to download them, print your own versions, customize your own version, as long as you give credit and do not use it commercially.

In this post we’ll point you towards everything you need to get yourself up and running with your own Polypoly game set.

Because this game is going to continue to evolve, you’ll notice that there’s version numbers on all the files. We’ll do official new releases of versions and translations of the game as we go - so this is how you’ll know what version you’re playing on. We’ll update this post with the latest official version of the game.

CURRENT VERSION: V4

Polypoly Board
We’ve created several sizes. For those in the US, we have an 18"x24" board that you can print out. For those on the metric scale, we have an A2 and A3 size. We recommend the A2 size for everywhere else but the US, but the A3 works too!

We recommend that you get them printed out on thicker paper, and then have it laminated. Once you’ve cut it out, you can do one of two things - leave it as a rectangle, or cut out the infinity shape to make a very unique style board.

Polypoly Manual Download + Print
There’s a manual that we’ve written with the current rules that gives a good starting point. There’s a quick start guide too, so you can get playing fast once your set is put together.

Chance & Catalyst Cards | Download + Print
We’ve pre-packaged the chance and catalyst cards so that you can print them out on a regular piece of paper. If you wanna get fancy, you can print them on colored paper, like Orange and Yellow, or whatever colors you want, and cut them out!

Property Title Cards | Download + Print
We recommend printing these out on thicker paper. If you want to get fancy, you can print them out, then laminate the cards, and then cut them. That way you can mark on them with a dry-erase marker, if you want to mark down any special rules.

Currency notes | Download + Print
There are paper notes for every currency in 4 amounts - 1, 2, 5 and 10. The amounts that you’ll hand out at the beginning can be found in the Manual.

Token gamepieces
You can use whatever you want, from a keychain to the more traditional thimble, or a unicorn! Decide however you want.

Commons token markers
When properties are bought into the Commons, its good to keep track of it on the board. When someone buys a property on behalf of the commons, it receives a marker that’s put on the board on that property. We use the little glass marbles to do it - but anything will work! It’s just important that you have some.

Dice
We know that you’ve got some around :game_die: :game_die:

Let us know in this post if anything’s missing, anything can be clarified, or you have further questions about getting your playtest set up. We’re here to help.
